The business

Sarkor Telecom was founded in 1996 and was, according to the company, the first in Uzbekistan to put an international fibre-optic channel into operation. It has since built and continues to extend its own fibre network across Tashkent, serving both consumer and business customers. After thirty years it remains one of the country’s established fixed-network providers.

Why we invested

A fibre network in a growing capital city is close to the definition of what we look for: a physical asset that took decades to build, cannot be replicated quickly, and sits underneath demand that only grows. Uzbekistan’s internet penetration and data consumption have been rising steadily from a low base, and an operator with its own infrastructure captures that growth rather than reselling it. Our partners have spent their careers on exactly this problem — building and consolidating fixed-line networks — and it is where our involvement is worth the most.

What we have done

  • Board representation and the reporting structure that goes with it.

Where it stands today

Sarkor Telecom operates its own fibre network in Tashkent and serves both consumer and business customers. In 2022 it ranked first among Uzbek internet providers in the marketing performance rating published by marketing.uz.
