Apifonica says it attended Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in 2025 to build partnerships rather than to exhibit a product, and its account of the event records two things worth noting. The first is geography: the company says it began entering the Latin American market earlier that year and used the event to meet prospective customers in the region face to face. It says it signed its first partnership agreement there during the event; the counterparty is not named in the source, and Boxwood has not sought to identify it.
The second is a change in how the company intends to sell. Denis Shirokiy, Apifonica’s founder and chief executive (described in the announcement as general manager), said it had become clear the product “must evolve towards a partner-centric model”, with the target customer being local business-to-business operators — call centres, SMS providers and telecom carriers — rather than end users directly.
The reasoning offered is practical. Speech technology already works in more than a hundred languages, but deployment still needs local expertise and cultural adaptation, which a regional partner network supplies.
